BP Renegades Steel Orchestra is the world’s largest, most traveled, and most acclaimed steel orchestra. The Band is the highest profiled ambassador of steelpan music and the culture of Trinidad and Tobago.
Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago, world steelpan champions - BP Renegades Steel Orchestra holds several accolades and awards to their credit, including:
Renegades is the only band to have toured Europe, every year - over the past 25 years, performing before consistently sold-out audiences.
Renegades is the recipient of several Sunshine Awards (USA), as well as Trinidad and Tobago’s second highest award, The Chaconia Gold Medal (1992) for its outstanding contribution to the culture of Trinidad and Tobago. The Band also received a City of Port of Spain Award in 1986 and a Pan Trinbago Award in 1990 for its outstanding contribution to the development of the steelpan movement.
For more than 25 years, Renegades been taking steelpan music to every corner of the globe. The Band has toured six of the world’s seven continents, the Caribbean, the British Isles, Japan, and La Reunion Island, mesmerizing audiences wherever they go.
· Renegades has performed at several concerts and Jazz festivals all over Europe and Japan, sharing the stage with greats such as Miriam Makeba and Oscar Peterson.
· In 1993, Renegades performed at the Earth Celebration on Sado Island - Japan, the highlight of which was a command performance featuring the Kodo drummers of Japan, the Kangsadan Orchestra of Thailand, and the Renegades Steel Orchestra of Trinidad and Tobago.
· In 2006, Renegades performed at the 18th Commonwealth Games in Sydney and at the Womad Festival in Adelaide, Australia.
· Renegades appeared at the Folle Journee Classical Festival in France in January -February of 2008, and since then has become an annual feature at the Festival.
In August 2009, Renegades performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, to commemorate the 47th Anniversary of the Independence of Trinidad and Tobago. The Concert, titled Classics and Steel, sold out in less than 2 hours of the box office opening.
